CANNIBAL (CHOSEN ONE) - ARTIST PROFILE
Cannibal
(the chosen1) born,
Ralph Sanda Masai is an East African recording and performing artist born and
raised in the coastal city, Mombasa. Having discovered his passion for music in
his early years of learning, Cannibal aspired to use his gift as a voice for
the youth in his neighborhood where he grew up under the influence of hiphop
music and other genres popular in the day.
Born in
a family of four as the firstborn, Cannibal took an interest in music from his
peers in school where he studied at Valentines primary and then later in Sacred
Heart Mombasa, before moving to Nairobi for higher learning. Before starting
out in the industry cannibal took some time to study trends and the loops in
the industry before he actually starting recording and was nicknamed Cannibal
by the late Kenyan comedy icon Poxi
Presha.
Cannibal’s first major commercial
breakthrough in the music industry came about after the release of a
collaboration hit single titled Kichwa Kibovu released in 2009 featuring fellow
Kenyan rapper, Sharama. Which was followed closely by another release titled
Bouncing, a project directed by Charles Luche in the same year. However,
that wasn’t his first recorded song, his
discography and music catalogue features many hits that have enjoyed commercial
success from his expansive fanbase in East Africa and beyond. Some of the most
renown songs include; Street Hustler,
Legend (produced by provoke & directed by Boomba pictures), My city- My
town; a collaboration with CMB Prezzo among others.
As a season artist, that has
risen to prominence in the entertainment circles to become and established
household name, cannibal has worked with other renown African artists,
producers, directors and stakeholders in the industry including collaborations
with Habida, CMB Prezzo, Nazizi, DJ Sadic
and many more high ranking personalities in the industry.
With local and international
acclaim, Cannibal has been nominated for multiple awards, both locally and
internationally, some including; the
Channel O awards (south Africa), Kilimanjaro Awards (Tanzania), Kisima Awards
and other local and regional awards in recognition of his contribution in the
African music and entertainment industry.
The opportunities to thrill his
fans globally through music performances in East Africa have proved Cannibal as
a versatile performer, have performed in major stages in East Africa, Europe
& around the world. The exposure in the industry having worked with Massin
(Zambia), Juma Nature (Tanzania), Constary (Switzerland) have honed his
experience, crystallizing his position as a seasoned artists open to prolifying
his music catalogue and expanding his growing fanbase globally.
Cannibal has also been actively
involved with community projects, working with various organizations on community development projects with
agencies and NGO’S such as the Red Cross and the Youth nation, in the capacity
of the program ambassador since 2018. Cannibal’s passion for youth empowerment
has seen him engage with youth from different counties around the nation as he
seeks to foster youth empowerment initiatives at different capacities.
With a different perspective and
having transitioned from secular music and now focusing on gospel and
inspirational music for over two years, Cannibal has been active in the
industry with consistency and zeal and aspires to impact audiences globally
with positive message as a powerful voice for the youth and an advocate for
positive change in the society using music as the tool for transformation.
