BLU TYGER (KENYA) - ARTIST PROFILE
Kenyan recording and performing
artist Edwin Otieno, popularly known by his stage name Blu Tyger is a creative
force to reckon with in the music arena. The singer, song writer and rap artist
was born and raised in Nairobi, the metropolitan city and melting pot of
diverse cultures that influenced Blu Tyger’s perspective in life and art which
is clearly evident in his music.
As a young boy, Blu Tyger’s
passion for music was inspired by his friends and artists he grew up listening
to on the radio such as Tupac and other hip-hop icons in the world. Initially,
his passion for music and art drew him to pursue his interests in music and entertainment,
first as a dancer while still a teenager. Working closely with friends to
nurture his dancing talent, Blu Tyger realized that he could also blend rhymes
and creatively rap and make music and he started to venture more into that with
support from friends and his family too.
Blu Tyger’s first song was recorded and produced by
Producer Drisa a track titled 35 cops, an experimental hiphop song which
captures both the reality of the street life in the city and the creative
imagination in his first song which wasn’t actively marketed and distributed by
then but still managed to cast spotlight on his talent among friends in his
circle. Blu has on many occasions outlined the fact that he didn’t quite choose
hiphop but actually, hiphop chose him.
Through music as a tool to pass
on his message and impact the lives of his youth audiences in Kenya and beyond,
Blu Tyger hopes to make a lasting positive impact in uplifting, motivating and
entertaining his loyal fans as his fanbase continues to grow on social media
platforms and music streaming base. With
the shift in the sound and trends in hiphop, Blu Tyger also hails XXXtentacion
and Juice World as artists that have also inspired his journey as an artist.
Apart from music, Blu Tyger has
also ventured in other art forms such as theatre and acting and has continued
to also diversify in music and show his versatility by creating music in other
sub-genres apart from hiphop only. He has featured on several music interviews
such as the Express Show Live a popular Kenyan entertainment podcast platform
as well as performed on different music concert stages such as West on the Rise
concert and the Fiesta festival where his enthralling music performances have
wowed his fans and demonstrated his capabilities as musical on-stage performer.
